Bobi Wine Did Not Praise Museveni’s Leadership – Viral Quotes Are Fabricated

The claim that Bobi Wine publicly applauded President Yoweri Museveni for his “outstanding leadership” in moving Uganda’s economy from stagnation to being vibrant and admired is false and misleading.

Bobi Wine’s Public Statements

Bobi Wine (Robert Kyagulanyi) has consistently criticised President Museveni’s rule and Ugandan government policies, especially on issues of economic management, governance, and human rights.

He has accused Museveni of suppressing opposition, electoral malpractice, and failing to deliver broad-based economic opportunities despite Uganda’s natural wealth.

There are no verified records or credible news reports of Bobi Wine praising Museveni for economic progress.

Viral Fabricated Quotes & Social Media

Fact-checking agencies and local media have exposed the widespread distribution of doctored images and fake front-page headlines attributing praise for Museveni to Bobi Wine. These viral quotes circulating online do not match Bobi Wine’s actual statements or positions.

Bobi Wine’s Real Stance on Uganda’s Economy

Bobi Wine’s actual position is that Uganda’s economic challenges stem from poor leadership and corruption, not from a lack of potential. He regularly calls for reforms and speaks out for unemployed youth, marginalised communities, and victims of state violence, contrary to the narrative in the viral posts.

While speaking at the launch of the alternative budget in April 2025, he described corruption as Uganda's greatest evil, stating:

"Corruption is Uganda’s greatest evil... It is corruption that has stolen the future of the people of Uganda. Many of you under 50 have seen corruption rob all your youthful and useful days. Corruption has stolen the vision of Uganda from the people of Uganda... Corruption is a currency in this regime; it is used to reward the corrupt and to silence or even eliminate those fighting it. This is not leadership but misrule and dictatorship—a rulership that has no accountability and is not answerable to the people."

All available evidence demonstrates that the claim about Bobi Wine’s praise for President Museveni’s economic leadership is fabricated and should not be relied upon as fact.
